Potenza S-03 Pole Position For driving connoisseurs with a passion for performance, there's a new tire setting new standards for handling, grip and service. The Bridgestone Potenza S-03 Pole Position, incorporating UNI-T AQII? technology, is a W/Y-speed rated tire designed for the more demanding performance car drivers.The Bridgestone Potenza S-03 Pole Position with UNI-T AQII may be considered a thoroughbred, with its lineage traced to the original Bridgestone Potenza S-02, introduced in 1995, the first tire in the Bridgestone/Firestone family to feature UNI-T technology.In 1998, the Bridgestone Potenza S-02 was succeeded by the Bridgestone Potenza S-02 Pole Position, the first tire to incorporate UNI-T AQ technology. The new Bridgestone Potenza S-03 Pole Position tire, introduced this week at Firebird Raceway in Phoenix, Ariz., is one of the first products in the Bridgestone inventory to utilize the newest UNI-T AQII technology.The Bridgestone Potenza S-03 Pole Position with UNI-T AQII also features a tread pattern derived from the successful Bridgestone Potenza wet weather racing tire used in Formula One competition. For three consecutive seasons the Formula One championship has been claimed by Bridgestone Potenza-equipped drivers, with many contests occurring on rain-drenched road and street courses."When we introduced the Bridgestone Potenza S-02 six years ago, it drew immediate acclaim from performance car enthusiasts," said Shu Ishibashi, Executive Vice President of Bridgestone/Firestone Inc. and President of the U.S. Consumer Tire Group. "Drivers appreciated its traction and handling, giving their vehicles a sound footing and stable platform for improved rides. In the time since that introduction, we've continued to refine its performance with the addition of our newest technologies. The new S-03 Pole Position with UNI-T AQII is now the flagship of the Bridgestone Potenza family, providing an amazing combination of characteristics and qualities deemed impossible just a few years ago."UNI-T is an acronym for Ultimate Network of Intelligent Tire Technology. It features three core elements: CO?CS, a Computer Optimized Component System which allows design and manufacturing processes to work more cooperatively, leading to a more efficient tire that doesn't sacrifice one area of performance for improvements in another; O-Bead, a more round structure that minimizes overlapped joints in the bead area for improved ride; and L.L. Carbon (Long Link Carbon) which helps the rubber compound resist microscopic tread tearing related to wear.UNI-T AQ is the second generation of the technology, with AQ being an acronym for "Advanced Quality." Tires with UNI-T AQ feature a dual-layer tread and extended performance compound, providing drivers with more consistent wet performance as the tires age and wear.UNI-T AQ II, the newest development, incorporates a variety of improvements to the earlier UNI-T and UNI-T AQ technologies to give drivers even stronger wet and dry performance, both when the tire is new and when it is worn.The new Bridgestone Potenza S-03 Pole Position with UNI-T AQII has a UTQG (Uniform Tire Quality Grading system) rating of 220 (treadwear) AA (traction) A (temperature). To ensure performance in wet driving conditions, the tire's design includes a number of innovative water evacuation and road gripping features.The tread pattern includes grooved wall riblets to reduce water turbulence, continuous racing car nose shaped block edges for smooth water draining, 3D wings and 3D grooves to maintain surface drainage and to keep groove width more consistent as the tire wears, and C.S.C. (Consistent Surface Contact) for more uniform contact pressure.The tread compound includes special softening and polymerization agents to improve grip, while the construction features a new tread-on-tread design to provide more consistent performance in the wet. While the earlier Bridgestone Potenza S-02 Pole Position with UNI-T AQ featured a dual layer tread, that second layer of tread was not exposed until a portion of the outer most tread layer had worn away. With the new Potenza S-03 Pole Position with UNI-T AQII, the second tread compound is exposed in the center of the tire when new, and gradually more is exposed from the center outward as the tire wears.
